Culture- and Study trip to China

Arts Nordica, Hyllie Park Folkhögskola and Studieförbundet BILDA plan a trip to Beijing - Kunming in October 2009 for all who are interested!

We plan the trip in cooperation with the culture center TCG Nordica, Kunming, that arranges visits to minority villages, workshops and concerts in Nordica, field trips in Kunming and one- or two days trips in Yunnan Province, etc.

The trip will be prepared during a few study meetings, where we learn more about the country and culture, and post-travel processing when we come back home. For those of you who live far from Malmö, we can arrange alternative preparations.

The time for the trip is week 43 and 44, October 2009.

Unfortunately, we will have to cancel the Autumn 2009 tour.

A later trip is planned for week 13-14, 2010, with a last day for notice of interest on January 15, 2010.

Artsnordica / Hylllie Park Folkhögskola's culture and field trips are planned partly together as a group, and in good time before the trip.

First, we travel to Beijing from one of the major airports in Sweden. We stop in Beijing 2-3 days to visit places of interest for the group.

Then we travel by flight to Kunming and the Yunnan Province, where culture center TCG Nordica help us realize the program our group has requested. See the link below for program proposals.

In Kunming, we have many opportunities to look at city life, but also to visit minority villages on the countryside (still in a medieval environment). There are also a number of other possibilities eg. bathe in the hot springs, find your way through the Stone Forest, meet professionals of different kinds, visit a Chinese Church, buy material and go to the tailor, buy glasses, see a dentist, etc. etc.

TCG Nordica is a culture center with gallery, stage and cafeteria. They organize concerts, exhibitions, performances and can arrange workshops of our choice – such as calligraphy, Chinese cooking, lectures, etc.

A trip to Yunnan is a visit to a different China, which offers beautiful scenery, interesting meetings with minority populations and insight into ancient cultural traditions. Overnight trips to exotique places like Dali or Lijiang Old Towns or the terrace fields of Yuanyang can be part of the programme, for an additional cost (see suggestions, below).

Accommodation in Beijing is at a normal standard hotel, and in Kunming we live in TCG Nordica's guest apartments in double / single rooms, within walking distance from the center. The apartments are modern and offer good quality accommodation with western standard toilets. We take breakfast at the center, where there is also always an opportunity to order food, a good cup of coffee and cake, if you like.

The price includes flights to / from China, flights between Beijing and Kunming and accommodation with breakfast and one more meal per day.

The trip is estimated at a cost of approximately 17,000 SEK.

If you want to stay an extra week in Kunming, arrangements for this can easily be made.

From the peak of the West Mountains outside Kunming, you get a splendid view over the city and the large Dianchi lake.
